Kardang Gompa Keylong

कादरंग गोम्पा-यह केलांग से पांच किलोमीटर की दुरी पर समुद्रतल से 3500 मीटर (11,480 फुट) की ऊंचाई पर निर्मित है। इसके ऊपर रंगचा शिखर है। कारदंग की यह गोम्पा नौवीं शताब्दी पूर्व की है। सन 1912 में लामा नोरबू ने इसका जिर्णोद्वार किया। गोम्पा की तीन मंजिले हैं। पहली मंजिल में गुरु पद्मसंभव, पूजा सामग्री, छोटे छोस्तान और कलाकृतियां हैं। दूसरी मंजिल में पद्मसंभव की मुख्य प्रतिमा है और अन्य बौद्ध देवी देवताओं और लामा नोरबू की प्रतिमा है। तीसरी मंजिल में (सांगेचोमदेन) भगवान बुद्ध है। कंग्युर और तंग्योर धर्म ग्रंथो का समृद्ध पुस्तकालय है। थंका (रेशम या सूती कपडे) पर बने सूंदर चित्र हैं जिन्हें लकड़ी के रोलर में लपेटा गया है। ऐसी ही आकृतियां दीवारों पर हैं। तीनों मंजिलों में देवता, उनके सहयोगी देवता और देवियां हैं। थंका में, दीवारों पर और भीतर रखी एक-एक वस्तु में संसार देखा जा सकता है लेकिन इन्हें समझना कठिन है। एक-एक लकीर के कई अर्थ हैं। यह मनौतियां का "मन्दिर" नहीं है। यहाँ महत्व पूजा, तपस्या, नियमों और अनुशासन का है।
कारदंग गोम्पा में जितना समृद्ध साहित्य कंग्युर और तंग्युर का है उतना लाहौल की किसी गोम्पा में नहीं है। पोथियां तंत्र विद्या से भरी हैं। तंत्र-मन्त्र का विस्तृत रूपांकन है और समाधियों की पूर्ण विधियां इसमें हैं। यहाँ के लामा तंत्र विज्ञान में कुशल हैं और गांवों में बराबर अनुष्ठान करते हैं। पंडितों का कार्य जैसे जन्म, मृत्यु और शादी-ब्याह के संस्कार लामा ही करते हैं। भुत-प्रेत लामा ही भागते हैं। कारदंग किसी समय केलांग की राजधानी रहा है।

The Gompa of Kardang or Karding is perched on the ridge below the Drilbu Ri mountain.

As I stood at the Shashur courtyard catching a glimpse of the valley below, the smoke rising from the chimneys of Kardang was fascinating. The location of the gompa keeps it damp and cold even during the summers because it witnesses sun rays only after the sun has risen above the left shoulder of the Drilbu Ri mountain.A wooden bridge built over a deep gorge across Bhaga River makes way to the Kardang Gompa. One can even approach the gompa via Tandi-Tupchiling Road which has come in recent years.

Kardang Gompa is just an half hour walk from Kardang Village, which was once the capital of the Lahaul Valley.

To describe the Gompa of Kardang, I’d mention Gill’s Himalayan Wnderland, a book written during author’s stay in the valley in 1960s.

The Kardang Monastery nestles in the coils of the Drilbu Ri, which rises above the valley likes a giant cobra standing on its tail with hood outspread. From its safe position, the monastery watches over the mundane activities of the mortals up and down the valley, like a benign presiding deity.
